Classes Showcase: 25 November – 21 December 2024

This show is a celebration of the 16 weekly classes we have developed and run over the last three years, thanks to funding from the Ministry for Culture and Heritage.

We’ve offered everything from drawing, painting, art therapy, dance, creative writing, multicultural, Māori arts, classes especially for 55+ and especially for kids.

Classes were designed to grow community alongside skills and catapulted the Centre into a hive of constant activity.

And what comes next? We’re pleased to say that thanks to a grant from the Christchurch City Council we will be able to keep most classes running next year. We also have a great exhibition programme lined up that so far includes 7 open calls for local artists.

Keep an eye on our website for updates.

Opening Hours: Tuesday-Saturday. Galleries 12-5pm. Classes start from 10am and run into the evening.

The exhibition “10” at Eastside Gallery is a celebration of ten years of The White Room Creative Space and includes works from 30 artists who use the studio. From it’s inception in 2014, The White Room has provided support to artists to explore art making, develop their art practice, connect with the arts community across Ōtautahi, and showcase their work through exhibitions and creative projects.

Works in the exhibition include a range of mediums, including painting, collage, drawing, and printmaking, and reflect a diverse range of subjects from abstract pattern-making to pets.
The White Room Creative Space: People who face barriers to participation in art and creative activities need supportive and non-judgemental places where creativity is the common language. The White Room is a community creative space that enables opportunities to make, participate and share art alongside others. We’re welcoming, accessible and supportive. Through this, artists build confidence, connections and embrace new opportunities. The White Room Community Creative Space was developed in late 2014 in response to a growing need to foster and develop the creative talent of people supported by SkillWise. With its own dedicated creative space, it has become an exciting and successful place where artists can explore and showcase their artistic potential.
